Web Services or the new inter-operability paradigm

The industry giants have spent huge amount of efforts to set Web Services up as the new standard for the Internet and IT applications to the point that public opinion became quickly polarized: those who thought Web Services were just another IT utopia (the strongest one) and those who became Web Services Evangelists.

The recent implementations emphasized the Web Services scope: a multi-organization effort that makes inter-operability standard come true. In the same period, application integration projects based on EAI (Enterprise Application Integration) reached the industrial stage, going out company borders towards BtoB exchanges. This scope and maturity convergence changes our way to consider EAI and Web Services: from a simple technical alternative we are going into a strategic option for the Information System architecture.
